VAGINITIS

Vaginitis is an inflammation of the vagina that can result in discharge, itching and pain. It is commonly caused by bacteria, protozoa, fungus or even due to mixed or simultaneuos infections, with at least tow or three afore mentioned pathogens. The infection can also result in reduced estrogen levels after menopause. The most common vaginal infections are bacterial vaginitis, trichomoniasis and vaginal yeast infection or candidiasis. Some vaginal infections are transmitted through sexual contact, but others such as yeast infections probably are not, depending on the cause.

The problem with vaginitis is that the cause cannot allways be determined on the basis of symptoms or physical examination alone. Usually, diagnosis involve examining a specimen of vaginal fluid under a microscope as well as culture.

Symptoms of Vaginitis
Women should be aware of the the three main contributing causes of vaginitis and their symptoms so they can seek early appropriate treatment. Although symptoms of vaginitis are confusing, they are important red flags of vaginitis. If women are alert to these symptoms, they can seek treatment for the condition. If left untreated, bacterial vaginitis for example could develop into pelvic inflammatory disease which can cause infertility and tubal pregnancy.Women should increased their awareness of symptoms of vaginitis and seek help with a combination therapy for vaginitis..
