Causes of Obesity

OBESITY

Causes of Obesity - Obesity occurs from consuming more calories than the body uses. The amount of calories needed by an individual depends on age, sex, physical activity and the individual's metabolic rate. One of the causes of obesity can be explained from a genetic point of view. Obesity tends to run in families. People who were obese as children are more likely to be obese as adults. Physical inactivity and sedentary lifestyle is also one of the causes of obesity among people today.

Obesity is often associated with heart diseases and is a major risk factor for high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol and diabetes, all of which are associated with greater incidence of suffering from a heart attack or strokes.

Defination of obesity - the standard method used to define overweight and obesity is to take the individual's body weight, measured in kilograms, and divide by the square of his height in metres. The final figure is called the body mass index (BMI), used to define the condition of overweight and obesity.

Symptoms of Obesity - Besides the change in shape and overall appearances, there are some symptoms that indicate you are most likely to be obese. If you are feeling fatigue, have low back pain and osteoarthritis, have swollen feet and ankles, skin disorders and difficulty in breathing or short of breath, these may be indicative symptoms of obesity.

If the causes of obesity are not address in childhood or adulthood, the symptoms of obesity can increase the risk of developing many health disorders such as heart failure and many other obesity diseases.
