Gouts

GOUTS

Gout is a painful condition that occurs when a bodily waste product, uric acid is deposited as needle-like crystals in the joints and/or soft tissues. In joints, uric acid crystals cause inflammatory arthritis which, in turns, leads to intermittent swelling, redness, heat, pain and stiffness. Chalky deposits of uric acid, also known as tophi can appear as lumps under the skin that surrounds joints and covers the rim of the ear. Uric acid crystals can also collect in the kidneys and can cause kidneystones.

There are a number of medicines to treat gout. Most medicines aim to reduce the symptoms of pain and swelling. Any medcation that is prescribed by your doctor is tailored to your individual needs. In order to ensure you get the best treatment, your doctor will consider your age and other health conditions you may have.
